Newcastle enjoyed a dramatic win in the FA Cup against Bournemouth at the weekend and will be hoping for a similar result in this EFL Cup game. The Magpies needed a stoppage time goal to take the game to extra time and came through a thrilling penalty shoot-out to progress to the next round. Eddie Howe will be hoping that such measures aren’t required in this EFL Cup tie, but with Manchester City coming to St James’ Park, Newcastle will need to be at their best to progress.

Manchester City had a much easier time in their FA Cup tie running away to a huge victory over Exeter City in their 3rd round tie. Pep Guardiola’s men won 10-1 against their League 1 opposition, with ten different players registering on the scoresheet. Among the scorers recent signing, Antoine Semenyo, who has been one of the form players in the Premier League this season. Will Guardiola give the new man more minutes in this game?

Hosts Newcastle are on a good run of form at the moment and come into this one at 11/5 to win the match. You can also back them in our 2 Up market which pays out if your team goes up by two goals at any point during the match at 19/10. City will be feeling confident after a prolific performance last time out, and have the slightly shorter odds at 23/20 to win the match, or 21/20 in our 2 Up market.
These two sides played each other earlier in the season in a Premier League contest also at St James’ Park. The hosts ran out eventual winners, with Harvey Barnes delivering two goals in quick succession to give the Magpies all three points. Will we see a similar result in this one?

We also offer a number of spread betting markets for Tuesday’s clash, including our “Goal Supremacy” market. This market currently has the Manchester City as slight favourites, with the visitors favoured by 0.25-0.45 goals. This means that if you placed a “buy” bet, you would need City to win to start turning a profit, and if you sold, you would need either a draw or a Newcastle win. If you bought, a one-goal victory for City would win you 0.55 times your stake, a two-goal victory 1.55 times your stake, and so on.
However, if you bought and City lost the game, you would lose money. Here, a one-goal loss would cost you 1.45 times your stake, a two-goal loss 2.45 times your stake, etc.
You can also bet on the total number of goals scored during the game with our Total Goals market. This is currently set at 3.05-3.25. If you’re expecting plenty of goalmouth action, you would “buy” and would need at least four total goals to turn a profit. Alternatively, if you expect a low-scoring affair, you could “sell” and would need three goals or fewer to turn a profit.
If you sold and the game ended 1-0, you would win 2.05 times your stake. However, if you sold and the game ended 4-2 you would lose 2.95 times your stake. It’s important to remember that when spread betting, if your bet loses, you can lose multiples of your stake, so be sure to choose appropriate stake sizes for each market.
