Two of the promoted sides meet at the Stadium Of Light on Sunday and it promises to be an intriguing game between an in-form Leeds side and a Sunderland outfit who have punched above their weight this season. It is a measure of their success that at the halfway point of the season, they are 22/1 in our Premier League relegation odds, having been odds-on for the drop in August.
December has brought five points so far, with the undoubted highlight the derby win over Newcastle on Wearside a few weeks ago. The one area of concern for Regis Le Bris will be his AFCON absentees, with six players unavailable for selection at the minute.
Star midfielder Noah Sadiki will line up alongside his club mate Arthur Masuaku for DR Congo, whilst the impressive Reinildo Mandava will turn out for Mozambique. Chemsdine Talbi, Bertrand Traore, and Habib Diarra will also be in action for their countries in Morocco.
However, despite their absentees, they were good value for a point in a 0-0 draw away at Brighton and back-to-back clean sheets have kept them in the European mix.
SUNDERLAND RECENT FORM
DRAW: Brighton 0-0 Leeds. Saturday 20th December 2025. WIN: Sunderland 1-0 Newcastle. Sunday 14th December 2025. LOSS: Manchester City 3-0 Sunderland. Saturday 6th December 2025.
Leeds head to Wearside in good nick and they were, a last-minute Ilan Meslier gaffe away from doing the double over Sunderland last year. Both games were highly entertaining as the pair tussled at the top of the league before Sunderland ultimately fell away in the last two months of the season.
There will obviously be a few new faces lining up for Leeds this weekend, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin the man on everyone’s lips at the minute. A brace against Palace last weekend extended his scoring run to six goals in five league matches and has propelled him back into the England discussion. With Lukas Nmecha a doubt for the trip to the Stadium Of Light, the onus will once again be on DCL to come up with the goods.
LEEDS UNITED RECENT FORM
WIN: Leeds 4-1 Crystal Palace. Saturday 20th December 2025. DRAW: Brentford 1-1 Leeds. Sunday 14th December 2025. DRAW: Leeds 3-3 Liverpool. Saturday 6th December 2025.

It is another tight betting heat involving Leeds and they travel up the A19 as narrow outsiders for this clash. Daniel Farke’s side are available to back at 7/4 to make it back-to-back wins, with the Whites at 13/8 on our 2 Up market.
As for Sunderland, they are made 8/5 shots to triumph on home soil, with the draw chalked up at 11/5.
We highlighted Sunderland’s recent defensive prowess, but Leeds have scored 13 goals across their last three league matches. You can back both sides to score in this one at 5/5, whilst either side to keep a clean sheet is also 5/6.

In our spread betting markets, our traders don’t fancy there to be many goals. With the Total Goals spread available to trade at 2.35-2.55, it is the lowest spread in the full slate of Premier League fixtures and there are only three lower in the full round of EFL and National League fixtures.
Similarly, Total Goal Minutes, available to trade at 119-129 and Goals Cubed at 31-36 are relatively low lines.

We will have plenty of price boosts and specials closer to kick off, but one spread betting market which is worth looking at is the Headed Goal Minutes spread. With Calvert-Lewin scoring headers in Leeds’ last two matches and Jaka Bijol, Pascal Struijk, and Joe Rodon all providing an aerial threat, Leeds will look to bombard Sunderland once again this weekend.
They have a league-high 12 goals from set pieces this season with 50% of their goals this term coming via this method. All four of their goals in the win over Palace were set piece goals and they could strike again this weekend.
